Track Kitchen
Debut of "The Track Kitchen" with Lisa Lake-Roedemeier.
Saturday, April 22nd was the first airing of "The Track Kitchen", a horse racing radio show with an informal discussion format. The show was designed by Lisa Lake-Roedemeier and co-hosts Jeff Lifson and Chad Summers, to emulate the "round-the-kitchen" table talk often heard on the backside in race track kitchens across America. It is a unique place where owners, breeders, vets, trainers, jockeys and the media all come together in a loose, comfortable setting.
Gary Roedemeier, news anchor for WHAS-11 and Alex Gans, bloodstock agent for Indian Creek in Paris, KY were "in the kitchen" on Saturday. Both have indicated that they plan to be back. "It was fun and stimulating conversation" said Roedemeier. "You can always judge a live show by how fast the time goes by...and it went by really fast."
Jeff Lifson is a former WHAS-11 sports anchor and TVG personality. He currently heads up the midwest division of West Point Thoroughbreds. Chad Summers is a Long Island, NY native who grew up around the track. He came to the University of Kentucky to study journalism and quickly became engrossed in the Kentucky horse world. He did a radio show in Lexington for two years called "This Week in Thoroughbred Racing" and is currently the racing manager/agent for Jennifer Pedersen.
In the debut, one of the primary focus topics was the tremendous pressure that the increasing sales prices causes for owners, trainers and partnership managers campaigning a Derby prospect. The group discussed how the media coverage has changed as a result.
"The Track Kitchen" will air on Saturdays (excluding Triple Crown race days) through the Belmont at 11:00 AM.
